A.J. Hanley

Editor/Writer

About

I’m a writer and editor based on the East End of Long Island. After getting my start in NYC as a copy editor for Glamour magazine, I went on to hold positions at Good Housekeeping (associate beauty editor), Fitness (senior lifestyle editor), and Shape (executive editor).
Going freelance has afforded me the opportunity to work for a wide variety of publications and explore different types of content. Over the years, I’ve contributed to numerous magazines and websites, including Health, Self, HGTV Magazine, InStyle, Redbook, Real Simple, New York Weddings, LHJ, The Mindfulness Journal, The Happiness Notebook, prevention.com, and refinery29. With a skill set that extends across platforms, I’ve also created magazine-quality content for iconic and emerging national brands, such as Hearst, Honda, Target and The Humane Company.*
While my work has been largely focused on beauty and health, I’ve written about home design, fashion, food, relationships, psychology, and sustainable living. I feel my strengths lie in my ability to fully immerse myself in the subject and make difficult subjects more digestible—and engaging—to the reader.
During my downtime, you might find me playing with my two standard poodles, practicing yoga (I’m a certified instructor) or writing copy for The Humane Company,* a clean, cruelty-free skincare company I founded with my husband, Jim.
